About MAME CHDs Directory

Please let me know about the files in "CHDs" directory at the "MAME" Download directory.

There, CHDs that are not included in each MAME UPDATE folder are often updated.

Recently, "popnanm2" and "mj1" have been updated, but they are not included in the "MAME0.272 UPDATE".

Also, many of them were updated this spring.

For example, "bmiidxc2", "bmiidx", "bm3rdmix", "ddrsna", "ddrsn2u", "ddrsn2j", "timetrv" "maquinati" etc...

Why Updated? Are they dumps from before MAME was compatible? And When MAME is compatible, will the same ones be included in the UPDATE folder at that time?

I'm a beginner, sorry...

In the "update" folder I upload new added CHD. When a new MAME release is published I move those CHD from the update folder to the CHD folder.

Keep in mind that this folder is in "merged" mode. Sometimes a new dump of a chd-file is released or when they change the "version" of the chd-manager binary we have to convert the chd to the new version (it is  still the same game but the "container (CHD)" is a new one).

The CHD-Folder is valid for the latest MAME release.

 Hi Mucci,

Long time visitor here but seldom post.  Question for you (or anyone really) ... I no longer see an update folder in downloads/mame

Has the update folder been moved or is it no longer being used?  Where are the possible next release sets being stored?

Thanks,

Jason

Dear Mucci,
Thanks a lot! Even if CHDs once released at each Update folder, it may be updated later (just like Running Change), don't it?
It means that it is better to download CHDs again from "CHDs" folder to run it with the latest MAME version. I see it.

It is a very long time since I had the CHDs for MAME, not anymore due to their huge need of hdd space. From curiosity, I checked the current size of the CHDs torrent and it is almost 1TB. And this without the software lists, only the arcade games. WTF?

Luckily, nowadays I have enough free hdd space to get them. But man, 1TB? This will take 1+ week to download, 2-3 days if I download for 24h/1day at max speed, lol :D !

I wish to old friends and all members, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year ! Happy Holidays!

As I have mentioned in the sooner thread -> we are in progress to change our process in the background (fully automated). that's why the latest updates are not available yet on RR -> use my MEGA link (find it in the sooner topic)

For the moment those updates are not available on RR (use my MEGA link):

- MAME update from 0.271 to 0.272

- MAME updates (sooner) for 0.272 to the next version 0.273

Dear daffyduck,
I was also surprised when I saw the file size of the full CHD set! I always just collected the CHDs in the update folder... My internet connection is too much poor, so I think it might be a bit difficult...
